Story
I’m an ordinary guy but I love being on two wheels and have done everything I can to encourage my children to follow my example. We live in the middle of town and LB Enfield’s proposals to clear the town centre for bikes will see the volume of traffic double within 50 feet of our home: that’s twice the danger from cars, vans, trucks and buses and twice the pollution.
Current proposals do not consider the needs of the most vulnerable in the streets that will receive traffic displaced from the town centre: the pedestrians, especially those with a physical or sensory impairment, are not the priority. The scheme does nothing to reduce the level of traffic either.
There is no justification for the convenience and promotion of cycling to take priority over pedestrian safety on any grounds whatsoever.
For me, my family and my neighbours the scheme won’t improve our health or create safe and secure cycle lane routes for everyone. Cycle Enfield have got it completely wrong and need to start again. Therefore, I am going to cycle from London to Bristol – a total of 180 miles.
Why cycle from one side of England to the other? There is no other way to make the point that you don’t have to be anti-cycling to oppose the current proposals for Cycle Enfield. As I said before, I love being on a bike but I can’t accept LB Enfield’s proposals as they’re a threat to the welfare and health of all who live in the vicinity. For the Council to bull-doze this through is not right and must be resisted strongly.
I am an advocate of free speech so do please leave your comments in support or in opposition - I welcome them all equally.
180 miles in three days is a big challenge for me. We would be so grateful for any donations, no matter how small, that you could spare to show support. All of your contribution goes to the legal fund.
Thank you!

8 years agoThank you to my very kind neighbours and friends who have been making cash donations. We've smashed the target of £1,000 but donations can still be made for a week or two yet! If you fancy donating a tenner, that 5.5p per mile!

This is Enfield not mini Holland. The centre will get no additional benefit from the imaginary hordes of cyclists. The scheme will treat everyone else as second class citizens. Let's start again!
