Suffolk Babies is a registered Community Interest Company formed in the summer of 2016 to increase access to antenatal education for local women and their partners. We use enterprise activities such as baby classes and fundraising campaigns to raise the £24,000 per year that we need to supply holistic antenatal education to all women registered with the Ipswich NHS Trust while they are pregnant.

We know that high quality antenatal education leads to better birth outcomes. When women and their partners are properly prepared for birth they are less likely to experience Birth Trauma or Post Natal Depression. Mental Health outcomes are also improved for their partners leading to more stable family relationships. Positive birth experiences also make it more likely that parents will form a secure attachment with their baby and the rate of successful breast feeding increases.

A positive birth experience is an experience where the mother and her partner felt empowered and well informed regarding the decisions made during their labour and birth. The mode of delivery should not be the primary focus, instead we should consider the emotional & physical well being of the whole family.
