Story
The Studio is a school for young people in the North West of England with a passion for creative media and video games in particular.
Last year we opened The Mezzanine - the world's first interactive, educational retro gaming museum. It was a massive lunchtime hit, providing insights into the evolution of the industry and the heritage of the region. It inspired many of our students to organise tournaments, make their own games and even win a BAFTA!
Most importantly, it imbued our students with a knowledge of the roots of the industry and the confidence to pursue a career in it. During open nights, the Mezzanine also became a beacon to local businesses and the other young people of the area - A statement of intent expressing the vibrant and exciting mindset of our school when it comes to engaging with our students about the creative activities they love.
However, The Studio is a tenant. This September, our landlords cleared the Mezzanine for much needed office space. Our precious kit was put in storage. ...Down but not out! In the last few months, we at The Studio have agreed on a new space and have been rebuilding like mad!
Set in the school's huge Victorian basement, the facility has been re-dubbed "The Dungeon" and comes complete with new branding and a host of pixel styled characters.
The Dungeon is a large arcade space in which our students can explore gaming history. However, it is lacking in two areas:
1. It has no access control (Approx £400).
2. It needs more plugs (Approx £300).
(Plus 10% fundraising fees).
Having spent quite a lot on the kit and software for last year's incarnation, The school is hoping to find external funding to finish The Dungeon permanently. So far, we have a great space full of old consoles and games. Everything is primed and working. All we need now are the plug sockets and access control.
With your help we can get those installed and open the doors... Our school's beloved museum will live again!!

8 years agoHi everyone. I just wanted to say thank you very much to everyone who's backed this project so far. The kids will be thrilled to have it back! We've just over a week to go, and we're not far from out first £300 goal which will have our plugs installed. In case you're on the fence, I've made this video showcasing the consoles, games and art that will feature in The Dungeon. You can catch it over at my wonderfully unsuccessful retro gaming channel - 1go Shortplay. Enjoy!
