    Story

    In brief…

Five of the staff and parents from Goonhavern Primary School are attempting the Perranporth Extreme Surf Triathlon (1500m sea swim, 38km bike – up and down the hills of Perranporth and a 7.5km run) to raise money for a bore hole in our link school in Tororo, Uganda so that the 650 children and the local community can gain access to fresh drinking water all year round.

    The story so far…

After visiting Nyakol Primary School in Tororo, Uganda in 2014 we discovered that, during droughts, the children in the school go long periods of time without access to drinking water – often in extreme heat. Some of these children also walk long distances – again in the hot climate – to and from school, meaning that they are going the entire day without drinking. After discussing this with the children in school, together we decided we wanted to help…

We began by carrying out some research and, after several letters backwards and forwards, we discovered that the best way to support these children was to build a bore hole on the school grounds. This would mean that children and the local community would have access to fresh drinking water all year round. Perfect.

So far – after an incredible effort and huge amounts of generosity from children, parents, the local community and staff – we have raised a total of £3,077.73.

In an effort to get closer to our target of £4,900, on the 4th September 2016, Mark Lloyd, Lydia Davis, Martin Marney, Simon Martyn and Lisa Verity will be attempting to complete the Perranporth Extreme Surf Triathlon. The triathlon is recognised as being one of the toughest in the country with an unpredictable surf swim, a challenging hilly bike route and an unforgiving run up and down the sand dunes on Perranporth beach.

If you are able to help, we would be extremely grateful. 💧💧💧💧
