Story
Scotland & Wales have memorials to their worst mining disaster's, England does not.
December 12th 2016 marks the 150th anniversary of England's worst Mining disaster, at the Oaks Colliery Nr Barnsley, South Yorkshire, in which 361 Men & Boys died. At the time this was the World's worst mining disaster.
The youngest victim was only 11yrs old, the oldest was 66. in an instant most of the male population in the area was wiped out.

9 years agoThank You....... To all who have generously donated money towards the Oaks Disaster Memorial. The image above is a miniature of the proposed memorial which will be approx 4m tall plus the height of the plinth. It will be located in front of the NUM offices in Barnsley. You can follow the memorial's progress on our facebook site "Remember The Oaks". Details of future events will be posted in due course. 12th December 2016 marks the 150th anniversary of this terrible disaster, thanks to your generosity the occasion will be marked with a fitting memorial that will be a permanent reminder to future generation's of the true price of coal. Once again.... THANK YOU

Gladly jumped on a train every weekend to see my dad while he was failing till he lost his final battle in December. In lieu of the train fares, in his honour, respect to all the brave lost men.
